Kitchen Tiles Splashbacks

Kitchen tiles makes the room hygienic, easy to clean and will look good for many years to come. You can tile the wall between your kitchen worktops and the base of the wall units, the Splashback, the floor and the rest of the room. All of these tiles can coordinate with the rest of the room, bringing the entire look and feel of the room together.

Reasons to use kitchen tiles as a splashback:

• Kitchen tiles are practical, including enthusiastic cooking splashes!

• The tiles can coordinate or contrast with the rest of your kitchen décor.

• Durability in terms of product, colour and finish.

• Unlimited colours, styles, textures and finishes.

• Cost effective when compared with glass.

Kitchen Splashback design tips:
There are a lot of options when using kitchen tiles as a splashback. Tiles can tie in the entire room scheme and the kitchen splashback can be the centre piece of the kitchen. Below are some examples with design tips to get you started.

Choose tiles that match the rest of the surfaces in the kitchen – including walls, floors, work units, work cabinets, doors, kitchen appliances (especially your cooker) and accessories/ decoration. The colour of your splashback could be the same as the rest of the tiles in the room.

If the main colours are neutral or wood, then the tiles could introduce some colour add more character to the room. You do not have to stick with just one colour.

Mosaics are a lovely way of introducing colour to a splashback, especially of you are after a contrast. Mosaics come in a variety of materials – it is best to stick to glass and ceramic/ porcelain when using a mosaic as a splashback.

The color of your splashback can harmonises with the rest of the room.

The color of your splashback could contrast with the rest of the kitchen. Choose something different, such as a Union Jack splashback, or listel style tiles that have decoration.

Change the orientation of the tiles on your splashback – diamond tiling looks great if you are skilled or brave enough to attempt this.

Metro tiles look modern and stylish in the kitchen and would be used as splaskback as well – a good tip here is to use a contrasting grout colour to show off each individual tile if fixed to the wall brick style.

Using scored tiles can help create the look of mosaic/ smaller individual tiles, when in fact they are a larger tile with scored lines. These scored lines are grouted in.

Grouting
You would tile the splashback area the same as you would tile any other wall in the kitchen. The gaps between the tiles are grouted in – which will need to be sealed to maintain the life and lasting colour of the grout. A recommended grout spray is by LTP and you just spend 5 minutes spraying the grout. This enhances the performance and appearance of the grout for longer. Obviously there will be splashes from cooking, which is why tiles come in handy with their wipe clean facility, including the grout lines once protected from grout protectors.
